This week, we met with 52 men who had just been deported. Some had been in the US for a long time. One man for 28 years, married and with seven children; another man, married with three kids, had been there for 22 years. Also, younger guys who had been there for 2 to 4 years. They were from Idaho, Utah, Texas, and other states. They had all been in detention in various states for various lengths of time; some had been moved from one to another. They were staying in a shelter provided by the Mexican government for just a few days until their bus transportation was scheduled and paid for by the government. We gave them all a note of hope and love, along with some pesos, so they could buy food during their bus journey. They were bound for various cities across the country. What humbled us was how, even though they had experienced such trauma and were still experiencing it, they were so friendly, wanted to chat, and share some laughs. May their journey be safe, and may they be able to reinvent themselves once again.
